ABC: A Short History, Part 2Through Grant's hard work and perseverance, ABC began to grow and by 1987 the business was able to move out of his house and into an office on Winchester Blvd in San Jose. The business remained at this location for 18 years. During this time, the business grew at a steady pace and underwent several transformations. By the late 1980s, Grant knew he would need to replace his IMSAI computers with more modern hardware.
Although computer hardware had improved dramatically between 1980 and
1990, Grant still did not have confidence that the available software
would do what he required of the hardware. Basing his new generation
of software on the previous, he again programmed an operating system and
suite of applications for a new computer based on an Intel 80386
processor. In 1993, this new system was placed into service and the old
IMSAI's were retired. The Shaw family likes to think that Grant's IMSAI
computers were among the most productive IMSAI's ever made.
